Held at the historic Royal Institution, the two-day event brought together young professionals, industry leaders and policymakers from across Europe to explore some of the biggest opportunities and challenges facing the space sector.
Representing SSTL as Subject Matter Experts in the Earth Observation workshop were Hamilton Law and Jenny Barry, who led delegates through a practical challenge examining the future of dual-use Earth Observation.
The workshop asked a timely question: "How can Europe scale dual-use Earth Observation fast enough to meet security demand without breaking the commercial business case?" Delegates worked collaboratively throughout the session before presenting their proposed solutions at the close of the conference.
Reflecting on the event, Hamilton (standing in pic below) said: "The real highlight was the energy of the delegates. It was fantastic to make new connections, catch up with old friends and see so many talented young people passionate about the future of Europe's space sector."
Across the weekend, attendees heard from an impressive line-up of speakers representing organisations including the European Space Agency (ESA), the UK Space Agency, Space Forge, Magdrive and D-Orbit. Discussions covered topics ranging from market disruption and commercial innovation to European sovereignty and the future of the continent's space capabilities.
Hamilton added: "Hosting the workshop at the Royal Institution made the event even more special. It was a privilege to stand on the stage of such a historic venue, even if only briefly."
The event was organised by the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC), whose volunteers once again delivered a highly professional programme that continues to provide an important platform for developing the next generation of space leaders.
Events such as E-SGW provide an excellent opportunity for SSTL's engineers to broaden their perspectives, share their expertise and build relationships across the European space community. It's an investment that benefits not only the individuals involved, but the wider industry too.
