Right from back then I was interested in engineering and went to Kingston College on a toolmaking apprenticeship before going to Kingston Poly to study mechanical engineering. No surprise, I have worked in the engineering sector ever since, covering all aspects of machining including quoting, inspection tools, mould making and CNC machining. I have worked at Frazer Nash, IEC, Pearpoint and numerous other companies.
In February 2016 I joined SSTL, starting as a precision machinist before moving up to be Machine Shop Manager, where I’ve since taken on mentoring and training roles. We work on all SSTL's satellite missions in the machine shop, with many of them having last minute emergencies that we need to react to!
The work is all bespoke made - nothing is mass produced - which I can confirm keeps us well challenged. But there is a great sense of achievement when we see the assembled spacecraft, knowing that our parts are on board and heading for orbit.”
Huge thanks to Kev for sharing his journey.. and for the fundamental contribution he and the Bordon team make to all our missions.
