Among the distinguished speakers were Jean-Pascal Lejault, HydroGNSS Project Manager at ESA, Harshbir Sangha, UKSA’s Head of Missions and Capabilities Director, and SSTL’s Founder and Executive Chairman, Sir Martin Sweeting. Each addressed the audience, underlining the scientific significance of the mission and its contribution to climate monitoring from space.
Following the presentations, guests were invited into the cleanroom to meet the HydroGNSS satellites—now nearly complete and undergoing final preparations. Developed under ESA’s Scout programme, HydroGNSS is a pathfinder Earth observation mission that will demonstrate the use of GNSS reflectometry to measure key climate variables such as soil moisture, biomass, and inundation.
HydroGNSS is a testament to the power of collaboration across agencies, academia, and industry—and a bold step forward in advancing affordable climate science from orbit.
Stay tuned for updates as HydroGNSS heads towards launch later in 2025.
