S1-4 Image of Turkey

S1-4 Image of Turkey
SSTL's S1-4 Satellite captured this very crisp image of Sanliurfa in Southern Turkey on the 22nd February, soon after the devastating earthquake. The majority of buildings in the zoomed-in section appear to an amateur eye to still be standing and the wider areas to be unaffected. A geospatial expert could analyse such imagery and give a different take on things. The original Disaster Monitoring Constellation (DMC) was set up over 20 years ago to task earth observation satellites owned and operated by different member states with imaging disaster areas. Earthquakes and flood continue to occur, and modern day space assets such as the S1-4 satellite continue in the spirit of the original DMC to image stricken areas and help bring attention and relief to those most in need.
