SSTL wins Best Aerospace and Defence Company

Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) has won the Best Aerospace and Defence Company Award at the Insider's first ever Made in the UK National finals, held in Liverpool yesterday as part of the International Festival for Business 2014. 

The Awards brought together regional winners across ten categories and are presented to companies that are deemed to have had the biggest impact in terms of employment, growth, and exports. In making the award, the judges noted that “SSTL is a major employer in Guildford and its single-minded commitment to R&D really impressed the judges, as well as the company’s significant growth in sales from new markets.”

SSTL’s CEO, Dr Matt Perkins is delighted with the Award, commenting “This Award acknowledges the talent, dedication and effort made by everyone in SSTL to achieve the success we have delivered over the years. Our low-cost and innovative approach to satellite engineering is enabling a space-based future for everyone, delivering applications such as satellite navigation, flood monitoring and search and rescue operations.”

The Awards dinner was held at the BT Convention Centre in Liverpool and was hosted by Giles Brandreth with a special guest speaker, Joe Anderson, Mayor of Liverpool.

The Awards covered a diverse range of manufacturing excellence across the United Kingdom with the ultimate accolade of Manufacturer of the Year going to the Cambridge Satchel Company.

Andrew Greenhalgh accepted the award on behalf of SSTL.
