How do I apply?

For the majority of our early careers opportunities you will be able to apply between October - December and for successful applicants assessment days or interviews will follow January - March.

Note that for 2020 we are not offering Work Experience, Internships or Industrial Year Placements.

Career Opportunities

graduate programme

Our two year Graduate Programme expands on the skills and knowledge gained through your degree, whilst giving you the opportunity to build your on the job experience.

During the programme you will receive training and mentoring by some of our most experienced employees whilst completing three placements lasting 8 months.

Two of your placements will be complimentary to your degree and the third placement will give you the opportunity to explore another area of the business e.g.:

  • Physics - Optical Systems & AIV & Design, Optical Mechanical Design, Thermal
  • Mechanical / Aeronautical - Mechanical Design, Mechanical Systems, AIT
  • Electrical or Electronics - On-Board-Data-Handling, Imager Electronics, Power, Mechanisms
  • Aerospace, Space Science/Systems Engineering -Systems, Mission Concepts

Graduate Placement vacancies will be open for applications from 1st October to 31st December 2019.


Our Apprenticeship Programmes are a great opportunity to gain a recognised qualification whilst developing on-the-job experience, to build a career in Engineering, Project Management, Finance or IT. We offer Apprenticeships that allows you to gain your Level 2 qualification all the way through to your Level 6.

You will attend college 1-2 days a week and have the opportunity to be mentored on-the-job by some of our most experienced employees, gaining new knowledge, skills and understanding. More importantly on completion of your chosen apprenticeship you are guaranteed a job with SSTL!

Apprenticeship Programme

Work Experience

Our one week Engineering Work Experience Programme takes place over the summer holidays and offers students the opportunity to gain first hand experience within different Engineering areas, to help them decide on what they would like to study further.

Unfortunately this year we are unable to accommodate any work experience requests.

internships and industrial years

Our Internships (up to 3 months) and Industrial years placements offers more exposure to the company and the way we work.

During your placement with SSTL you will gain an in depth knowledge of an area relevant to your studies and get to work alongside some of our most experienced employees.
