Recruitment Process

What we look for

We look for enthusiastic, driven and ambitious people, who are motivated to learn quickly but also bring a broad range of skills and experience.  We are keen to recruit people who like a challenge, and are not afraid to take responsibility for their work, actions and decisions.
Through our recruitment process, we aim to recruit the right people by ensuring that you have a good understanding of what we do, the role that you are interested in, and our expectations.

Finding a role that you want to apply for

Our recruitment process starts when you see a role online that fits with your skills and experience by using our search fields – just choose your criteria. Once you’ve found a role you would like to apply for, you can apply using our online application process.

Our assessment process

  • After we receive your CV and application, it will go through an initial sifting process. This is to ensure that you meet the minimum criteria for the role.
  • It will then be forwarded to the hiring manager for short-listing.
  • If your application is short-listed, you will then be contacted to undertake a technical competency based interview, either by telephone or on a face to face basis.
  • If you are successful at first interview stage, a second stage interview will take place with a more senior manager plus a member of the HR Team who will then make the hiring decision.

Initial offer and pre-employment checks

If you are successful in your application, assessment, and interview process, we will send you the offer details which will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks. Our pre-employment checks consist of the following:

References, qualifications and professional memberships

As part of our offer process, you will need to provide two referees that will cover a minimum three year employment period, one of which must be your current or most recent line manager. If you have just left full-time education, one of your referees could be your course tutor. Please ensure that you gain your referees permission before you put their details on your form. We will not contact your referees without your permission.
You will also need to provide original documents to show any qualifications, professional memberships and registrations that we require for the role you have applied for.

Medical clearance

If you are offered a role with us, you will be required to complete a confidential medical questionnaire and we may ask you to attend a medical assessment to ensure you are fit to carry out the duties of the post.

Our Talent Pool

At SSTL we are always interested in hearing from skilled and experienced people who could come and join our team.  That’s why we are keen to build a strong talent pool of potential candidates.  Even if we are not currently recruiting for a particular role, we still want to hear from you….after all you could be our next Project Manager or Systems Engineer!
We have included a list of some of our roles together with their job descriptions, so if you don’t want to miss out on the next opportunity that comes along, please complete an application against a vacancy listed for the Talent Pool, attaching your most up to date CV.  If you meet our minimum eligibility criteria for a role, we will hold your application in our talent pool for up to six months and contact you if a suitable vacancy occurs.
