SSTL Graduate Development Programme

What is it?

The SSTL Graduate Training Programme allows successful candidates to gain experience in most, if not all, of the main engineering disciplines within the Space industry.  The goal of our Graduate Training Programme is to gain an overall understanding of how the business works before deciding on a specific area or discipline to specialise in.

The initial phase of the Graduate Training Programme includes exposure to the following:

·         Mission and System level Engineering

·         Mechanical Engineering Design

·         Electronics Engineering Design

·         Manufacturing, Assembly, Integration and Test

·         Spacecraft Operations

·         Project Management

·         Commercial aspects including Business Development, Sales and Finance

The first year of the Programme provides a great deal of on the job training and mentoring, which is delivered by experienced members of SSTL. This is combined with more formal training sessions, run both internally and externally.  Graduates also have the opportunity to experience 2 or 3 different engineering teams within their preferred and most appropriate discipline through secondments.

The second year of the Programme gives the graduates the opportunity to spend a longer period of time in their preferred area.

Who can apply?

Applications from graduates in the following subjects and disciplines are encouraged:
  • Astronautics
  • Space Mission and/or Systems Engineering, including AIV and operations
  • Physics with Space Science
  • Electronic Engineering, (emphasis on analogue, digital or RF (radio frequency) engineering would be an advantage)
  • Software Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
Candidates with a Masters Degree or higher are most likely to be successful. Equivalent qualifications from other countries will of course be considered.

The application process for the Graduate Development Programme 2012 has now closed.
